Scale choice PDF Print
  • There are 5 common model railroad scales. Their choice to build our layout depends on different factors: matherials availability, the details we want to have and, of course, the dimensions of the room where our layout will be hosted.
  • Z scale: rate reduction 1:220, gauge 6,5 mm.
Pros: it needs very little space
Cons: few items available, few details

  • N scale: rate reduction 1:160, gauge 9 mm.
Pros: it needs little space, interesting layouts can be built.
Cons: in same cases we have loss of details.

  • HO scale: rate reduction 1:87, gauge 16,5 mm.
Pros: great details, suitable to be hosted in not too large rooms, huge amount of items available.
Cons: if you want to build a layout with interesting scenery, you need a large room.

  • O scale: rate reduction 1:45, gauge 32 mm.
    Pros: well detailled
Cons: not too much items available, large rooms requested.

  • I scale: rate reduction 1:22,5, gauge 45 mm.
Pros: very detailled, the rolling stocks run smoothly, can be used for garden railroads.
Cons: quite expensive, very large rooms needed.
